Natural Colouring for CP Soap..

m in the midst of finding natural colorants for my soap.

the only one I could use, commonly found here is turmeric.

pandan is available but to get the colour (green/hijau) is tiresome.
m dh tak ingat sangat cemane m wat tahun lepas.
rasa-rasanya cam ni kut -
m potong kasar, campur dengan air dan blend, pastu perah.

m rasa m nak carik stevia lah.
kalau ada dalam bentuk serbuk senang la nak source out kaler hijau.
for your info- the google search have included stevia as a possible green.

hmm..
note to self and others reading..
the green from pandan doesnt last for a year.
that means the soap should be used within 6 months or less.
not meant to be kept forever okay..

black/hitam, m dah beli activated charcoal.
banyak lagi ada. tak abis-abis lagi ha hitamnya.

purple/ungu/biji remia, is currently an adventure.
some are using Alkanet, Ratanjot, Stoneseed/Gromwell.
the search was interesting.. still is, actually.

red sandalwood is too hard to find and
if I’m not mistaken, will be expensive.
sandalwood ialah cendana, by  the way.
some websites are stating that it can produce a purple/red coloured soaps.

annatto is another natural colouring and
the local pokok is kesumba.
this could produce the colour orange..

yes, these searches for natural colouring has gotten me searching for local trees/shrubs/etc.

i have yet to get bunga telang.
this is for the colour blue/biru.
if it can be used on soaps.
so far, I’ve read that this is used to colour our Kelantanese dish, Nasi Kerabu.

paprika for red/orange.
dok ingat paprika tu cili macam cili biasa yg kering..
rupa-rupanya capsicum.
i don’t really know my way in the kitchen–cooking-wise,
i have to admit that at least..
;)
still, i have to find powdered ones.
takkanlah m nak beli the whole fruit and dry it and blend it myself.
maaf, m rasa m tak serajin tu.

tapi doa-doakanlah m jadi rajin
dan mampu buat kebanyakan perkara sendiri ye,
terima kasih.
hehe

okay, my search for natural colouring continues..

i still need the physical trees/fruit/flowers.

cant find it yet here.

so if you happen to see some, tell me where so i can come and trim it off..

4th Batch!! Curdled again!!

Salam,

My 4th batch, curdled.
not as much as my 1st batch.
still, it curdled.

see pics below.

nice colour haa ;)

looks so creamy..

bahan-bahan yang digunakan ialah
minyak kelapa sawit, minyak zaitun, minyak canola, dan NaOH.
tak lupa juga santan kelapa sebagai ganti air.
no fragrance.

see the texture?
cantik kan...
bila lagi nak perasan..
hehehe

i lined it all in a box.. love the texture..

you cant really see the curdled spots. pix not clear.. the white dots..

so i grated it..
letih giler dok garit sabun ni k.
next round kena lebih berhati-hati.
the coconut cream must not be too too frozen.
nanti curdle lagi, lagi payah!!

melted it and added cili kering
ayah kata kalau kulit tu luka, kena cili ni mesti pedih.
tapi m dah letak dah, tak leh nak buat apa-apa lagi.
pedih nanti pun pedih laa..kalau ada luka laa.

i also added cinnamon and activated charcoal powder..

cili kering tu nampak cam kaler oren.
cinnamon tu nampak cam brown ke purple?
and activated charcoal doesnt really look grey
nampak cam kaler biru pun ada gak. kan?
blue grey gitu..

kat atas ni gambar sabun yang dah dipotong..

if you can see in some pictures, i sprinkled and pressed hard, on top, crushed almonds..
as hard as i pressed it doesnt stick to the soap much!

why o why!!

yang ni gambar 2 hujung..
the top end, can see that i didnt pack the soap nicely coz
you can see some gap there between the coloured soaps.

you can see that each bar is different from one another.
all unique bars..
cun!!

top picture,
the brownish purplish one - cinnamon,
(macam kaler lebam kan..)
orangy - dried chilli powder
bluish grey - activated charcoal powder.

see the lines in top picture, that was made when i cut the bars,
the crushed almonds followed the knife as i cut.

i cut too thin..
and senget benget
so ada yang gemuk at one end and thinner kat hujung.

gambar2 atas ni ialah gambar2 yang gatal nak dimasukkan
ye la, pas guna nanti dah tak ada proof nak tunjuk atau nak ingat balik ,
"oo m, pernah buat sabun pelik ni.."
hahaha

My 3rd Cold Processed Soap =)

Salam,

this is my 3rd CP soap.
made it on the same week as the other two, actually..
nice kan..

for the ingredients, i used same oils as the 2nd CP soap.
but this time i added turmeric powder and grounded black peppercorns
and Black Pepper EO and Orange-Sweet EO.

need to buy an EO for the base note!!

i did not take a picture of it just after i pour it into the mould!!!
rugi tau :(

i should have you know..
because now the bright colours has faded.
rugi kan :(

the pale cream section you see below was actually orange at the time of pouring
because i added turmeric powder into the mix.
it was a beautiful bright orange....
alas!

I've cut it into 4 rectangular bars..

and lastly cut into 8 bars, like the previous one..

feast your eyes with my lower-than-amateur photos..

of course i have to upload many photos..

one is just not enough!!

do ignore the sawdust on the soap.. i was doing some woodworking after..hehe
have to practice on my swirls!!

i added freshly grounded black peppercorns

that, unfortunately, turned into those brown spots as you can see in all the photos..

so, i have to contain myself from using fresh items in my soap or it'll end up like this again!!

tak nak ah, nanti tak chantek kan..

i was thinking that the peppercorns could be a scrubbing tool embedded in the soap

mana nak tau yang dia nak kembang lak!!

well, 2 weeks to go!!

then we'll find out if it scrubs well!!

hehehe....

Update on CP soap w Activated Charcoal

Salam,

i've cut my 4 bars into 2 bars each.

i cut it with a fishing wire (my dad's) hehehe
(he did say i could cut the length i needed)
=)

but i did not measure it (the soap bar) accurately
so most definitely ada yang pendek dan ada yang senget-benget.

hehehe

i think you can clearly see how crooked it is even from the top view. sad ha..

m dah cuba buat my own soap cutter but that got crooked as well so i have yet to use it.

i'd have to fix it before i start using it or buy a totally new one..

but its a palm size bar. a standard size square bar.

i have a problem with this though..

can see right?

the bar is grey but the specks are darker grey.

is it possible that the specks are the activated charcoal bits?

entah lah..

janji nanti boleh pakai sudah laa.

it's the 3rd week of curing.. so i have about one week to go and then i can try it out.

m tak nak la tunggu sampai 6 minggu.. 4 should be enough..

My 2nd Cold Processed soap !!

Salam,

I made my second soap yesterday.

from the looks of it, its beautiful..
not because i made it hehe
but the colour is beautiful, blackish greyish..

this time it was palm+olive+canola+lye+coconut milk(CM)+activated charcoal.

i made sure i froze the CM first this time so that it doesnt curdle.
it worked!!

i did not make it slushy, i just waited till it melt just a little.
i poured all frozen CM into a stainless steel bowl,
made a well, sort of, in the centre and pour the lye in, a little at a time
and while stirring, pushed the frozen CM into the centre, where the lye is, one by one.

it did not curdle so i am very happy!!

i need to find a way to cut this soap nicely.

i didnt cut the first one well,
it was too thin and very very uneven that it cant stand!
i'm actually curing it flat on its side, turning it every now and then..

i've googled and read that i should just throw it away
but it would be such a waste so i'm keeping it for me still..
=)

i will do the cutting ceremony soon!!

blog about it later peeps!!

;)
